USA Patriotic intermittently refuses to uninstall/change display settings under Windows NT 4.0
Applies to:
- USA Patriotic 1.0
SYMPTOMS
On some Windows NT 4.0 systems, USA Patriotic may refuse to uninstall
or the Display Properties control panel may intermittently refuse to allow
the user to switch to a different screen saver when USA Patriotic is
recently in use or preview.
CAUSE
An intermittent hang on exit may occur sporadically on Windows NT 4.0 systems
due to a thread deadlock condition. The screen saver appears to the user to
terminate properly, but the process still exists.
The Uninstaller and Display Properties fail because they detect the screen
saver as still in operation.
CURE
This issue has been resolved in USA Patriotic 1.1. Users are recommended to
upgrade to USA Patriotic 1.1.
There is no charge for this update.
A workaround exists for users who do not wish to upgrade:
- From the Windows NT Task Manager, choose the Processes tab and locate the
process name USAPAT~1.SCR
- Highlight USAPAT~1.SCR and click End Process. Select Yes from the warning dialog.
You should now be able to change or uninstall the screen saver.
